Handy Hints for Cat Owners

If you have an indoor only cat, remember they still need access to grass. You can buy cat grass seeds on ebay ("Dactylis glomerata”) or nurseries will sell small pots.
A ping pong balls works great in a bathtub as it keeps bouncing around. You might want to video the first session while your cat has a ball. Pun intended!
Laser lights can be great fun. However, make sure not to shine it in your cat's eyes. Or yours! Always end the game with your cat 'catching' something. Hide a small treat - some meat or cheese - somewhere and when the game is over, shine the light on the treat so the cat thinks he has won. Otherwise, your cat will soon stop playing as they never catch anything.
Try and stay away from cat foods made in Thailand or any of the Asian countries. A can a few times a week is cool but these countries don't have the same restrictions as to what goes into their food to make up the bulk. A lot of it is crap and not nutritious. A combination of Australian canned and dry food and raw meat from a pet warehouse is generally the best way to go.
For all flea and worming items, check out ebay prices. You’ll save money compared to buying from a vet or pet warehouse. Just stay away from supermarket brands. There is a reason you will never find these brands at a reputable pet place. They can be toxic, causing some cats seizures and even death.
A fun treat for cats is, believe it or not...creamed corn. Get the Woolworths brand, as it is the least lumpy.
To help with emergencies, put $5 a week into an account at your vet. Being in credit can relieve a lot of stress when something unexpected comes along.
An old rubber-backed bathmat is ideal at the bottom of your cat carry cage to help stop your cat slipping around while traveling.
Always give food warm or at room temperature. If they were eating prey, it would be body temperature. If you store food in the fridge, heat for a flittle bit on de-frost in the microwave. Also stay away from plastic bowls. They can harbor bacteria and cause cat acne around the chin and muzzle.
Using a motorbike glove can be a great way to play with your cat when wrestling. This way you don’t need to worry about being shredded and your cat can have the fun of playing rough. It’s easy to teach them that once the glove is off, the game is over. If you don’t have a glove, try an oven mitt.
Most important of all - always get your cats, and other pets, de-sexed. Not only is this about stopping breeding and emptying shelters. Cats, dogs and rabbits are all prone to more types of cancer without de-sexing. Talk to your vet about it.
Enjoy your time with your cat
